This week we have been introduced to the apple mac sweets and all of the softwear that we need to complete are film production. i have been using the garage band softwear to try and create the sound tracks that we need to add into the production. i have also created a sound track for the animatic all of the sound effects are non-copyright legal becouse they are my newly created sounds. Ryan was working next to me and created the animatic by peicing all of the photographs that we took to create the animatic.

Final desisions

we have desided to use the soundtrack that i have created on garage band to be used in are Animatic, i used different tupes of soundtrack to create emotional, fast and energetic peices of sound to be used through ou the animatic.

the sound effects that we are going to use are the sounds of heavy breathin, the lockers being hit and maybe the sound of punches being trown.

posible locations

a majority of our scenes are going to be played out in a school setting this is to show the age of our character and that he is still young and in school. and our last scene will be played out in a car park, we are hoping to use the car park to sheldon country park or a highg rise car park, we feel that this setting will show how the character has grown throughout the film as in the start he was in a young setting the school and at the end its a more general setting this shows that the trouble the character was getting in school has developed into outside of the school.

Diary 15 october

We have created some mood boreds to go with are project, we have also been looking at locations and what type of props we would be using to create are mood boreds. we had to change the stoyline for are project becouse there were too many things that would make the filming difficult so we have desided to change it to the villion fights the victim but instead the villions wins and the victim dies.
this mood board was created by Chris Malin and he has shown loads off different emotions and locations to were are media project can be filmed.
The film tormented is a good reforence to use towords are prosuct becouse there film is about bullying but instead of the victim just fighting back he dies and then comes from beyond the grave to kill the villons. this film is a horror genre becouse there are alot of gory scenes made and it is really morbid how the victim comes back to kill all of the villons.

Storybored

we have created a story bored but it is not entirely finished because instead of actually drawing the scenes we decided to take some pictures of the scenes that we will be acting to try and make are storyboarded more imaginative. but we have a basic storyline to the short film we are having a person who is the victim being bullied in a school and some villains who end up getting back what they give out by the victim so he comes back in the end and to inflict revenge to the villains, we are going to make the filming inside the school environment when he is getting bullied in school and outside in the community to show the actual parts were he is being Beaton up and eventual beating up the villains.

Diary

This week we had to create a treatmen to back up are idea for are 5 minuet short film. we desided to base are film on the acts of bullying and violence to try and get people to see the affects of bullying and one thing that bullying courses the viktim to do. we are using the films everback down and fighting mainly to compear to our project to make are research valid.

Treatment

Binary opposition
One bully / one victim
Right /wrong
Love / hate
Trust / betrayal

Core actors
Hero – To seek out revenge on those who have bullied him and his friends and he aims to put a stop to this. The hero is a very emotional character who is experiencing a roller coaster ride as he goes to a new college. He experiences and tolerates being bullied until eventually he stands his ground and makes the difference which is needed.
Villains - A group of people who get pleasure from bullying, robbing and intimidating others. The villains are a gang of people who victimise and get pleasure from seeing other people suffer.
Heroin - A goal achieved at the end of the movie the hero would have achieved freedom, friendship and peace of mind.
Mentor - A character that provides advice and support and helps the plot to further climb deeper. This is a person who is experiences the same punishment as the hero, and wants to put a stop to it.
Extra’s – The extras in the film will be mostly used as an audience which will make the film have a larger context and adds to fine detail. Extras could also be there to create a noise which can add to the effect of the genre.
The three acts
The setup- hero switched college to a new area to live there happily ever after.
The set back- hero is threatened and beaten up by bullies/villain.
The resolution- the hero realises the only way to fix the situation is to fight for his pride and for what he believes is right.
Settings and Props
In our movie we will be using a wide range of settings and props; one of the settings we are aiming to use is a car park. We believe that a car park represents urban areas and that it will set the scene and mood for the film. We want the car park as in the film the characters are going to be college students and we believe that this will make the movie more realists to viewers.
We are also hoping to use props for example, we will use make up to represent bruises which coincides with the title of the film ‘Beneath the Bruises’. As we start to film if we think that our piece would be more effective with different props we will get hold of them. We will have extras which includes people which will be there for an audience for the fight scene. Having an audience would make the fight scene have a better atmosphere. We will get cars in which will give the impression that people have come to watch the fight.

Media- mood bords

In media we were given a set task to creat an advert for a set product. we had the product of Harvey Nickles english breackfest tea so we created a mood bored to try and sell the product.
in this mood bored we used:
  • Images of continental breakfeasts
  • Images of the country side to say it relaves the stress and its all natural tea
  • loads of exotic words
  • Bright colours
  • and we created a story bored for th advert
Jake Tyler has recently moved to Orlando, Florida with his family to support his younger brother's shot at a professional tennis career. Jake was a star athlete on the football team at home, but in this new city he is an outsider with a reputation for being a quick tempered brawler. Making an attempt to fit in, at the invitation of a flirtatious classmate, Baja, Jake goes to a party where he is unwittingly pulled into a fight with a bully named Ryan McDonald. While he is defeated and humiliated in the fight, a classmate introduces himself to Jake and tells him about the sport known as Mixed Marshall Arts (MMA). He sees a star in Jake and asks that he meet with his mentor, Jean Roqua. It is immediately apparent to Jake that MMA is not street fighting, but rather an art form he wants to master. Roqua will take Jake under his wing, but it is up to Jake to find the patience, discipline, willingness and reason within him to succeed. For Jake, there is much more at stake than mere victory. His decision will not just settle a score; it will define who he is.

The British Board of Film Classifications states:
'All classification decisions are based on the BBFC’s published and regularly updated Guidelines. The Guidelines are the product of extensive public consultation, research and the accumulated experience of the BBFC over many years. They reflect current views on film, DVD and video game regulation.
In the most recent consultation over 8700 members of the public were asked for their views on classification – including consideration of issues such as language, discrimination, violence, sex and drugs in films, DVDs and video games, parental concerns about younger viewers and recent BBFC decisions. The Guidelines also take into account the various UK laws which the BBFC must consider and apply when making classification decisions'.

We are going to rate our film 15, this is because the British Board of Film Classifications states:

Suitable only for 15 years and over

No one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work.

Discrimination

The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour.

Drugs

Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily accessible and highly dangerous substances (for example, aerosols or solvents) is unlikely to be acceptable.

Horror

Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.

Imitable behaviour

Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Language

There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’). The strongest  terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.

Nudity

Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context.

Sex

Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour, but the strongest references are unlikely  to be acceptable unless justified by context. Works whose primary purpose is sexual arousal or stimulation are unlikely to be acceptable.

Theme

No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate for 15 year olds.

Violence

Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification.

Conventions of a medis text

Action films tend to have a fairly straight forward storyline the good guys vs the bad guys. Action films are mostly "High Concept" where the whole movie can be summerised in one simple sentance. Who actually are the good guys changed from film to film, in Hollywood films the good guy is always patriotic. On the other hand the bad guys are normally criminals or people of high foreign power.

Martial Arts in Action Films:
The popular, Hong Kong kung fu genre was catapulted to world-wide prominence in the 1970s with Bruce Lee's four martial-arts films, with spectacular fight scenes. Unfortunately, many of them were dubbed and had poorly-contrived plots containing copy-cat James Bond elements. Lee's best films were his last two - they were released post-humously after he died at the young age of 32.

A variant on the martial-arts films has been the films of Jackie Chan (nicknamed the "Buster Keaton of Kung-Fu") and his numerous 80s and 90s Hong-Kong and US-produced action comedies. Success finally arrived for Chan with Rumble in the Bronx (1996), Rush Hour (1998), Shanghai Noon (2000), Rush Hour 2 (2001), The Tuxedo (2002), and Shanghai Nights (2003).

Belgian Movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme starred in a variant of the Asian martial-arts films - the action-filled kickboxer film, as in Bloodsport (1988), Black Eagle (1988), Kickboxer (1989), Death Warrant (1990), Double Impact (1991), Nowhere to Run (1993), and Hard Target (1993).

Violent and graphic action films (as well as gangster flicks) also owe a debt to Hong Kong's legendary John Woo, who helped to shape the genre with scenes of stylish choreography in The Killer (1989) and Hard-Boiled (1992), both with Chow Yun-Fat in the lead role. John Woo's intense and intelligent action film Face/Off (1997) featured a stolen-identity plot with Nicolas Cage and John Travolta in the good/evil roles. Woo's sequel film Mission: Impossible 2 (2000) to the inferior 1996 Brian De Palma version Mission: Impossible (1996) was filled with exciting, no-holds-barred action sequences. And Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), the winner of the Best Foreign Film Oscar and three others (Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Score), was a spectacular and entertaining martial arts entry.

US films influenced by the martial arts craze included The Karate Kid (1984) and The Karate Kid, Part II (1986), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991), Blade (1998) and Blade II (2002), and the video-game adaptation Mortal Kombat (1995

Ong Bak

When the head of Ong-Bak--the sacred Buddha of a poor village--is stolen, the population is plunged into misery. The Buddha was the focal point of an anniversary vigil believed to bring rain to the drought-stricken area. Young Ting is selected by the villagers to travel to Bangkok and rescue the relic in time for their ceremony. Ting has an affinity with the statue as he was left on the temple steps as a baby and raised by monks, who taught him muay thai, but forbade him to use it in combat. But now he is forced to delve into a seedy underworld and try to avoid temptation.

Symbolic Code Analysis

Settings & Props
the setting in thsi image is set in a village in the middle of china you can tell this by looking at the sourondigs and the baners in chinese, the props used are the baskits and the poles to  hold the banner up, Jacki chan is wearing a common chinese marshial arts robe which shows that he is skilled in this type of art.
The facial expression that jaki chan has shows that he is angry he is concerntraiting and the person in the back ground looks daised and defensless.
the other charictor is wearing a suit which shows he is higherclass the ripped sleave on the blazer shows he has bin involved in an incodent / fight and that he is the bad guy couse in some chinese cillages they are too poor to wear any tipe of suit they wear traditional working cloths and te other charactor is out of place there.

lighting- the lighting shows that it is a happy kind of enviroment but with the darkness to the left coming in shows that there is bad things or depressing emotion is going on.

Medium Shot

Medium shot- it shows the subjects action or interaction.
This shot is used to show Jake Tyler action in the fight scene and the enviroment that he is in . it also meakes it easyer for audiance to see the expression on the subjects face.
this is a eye view shot it shows that the sceene is an action sceene and creates an inteance emotion in the viewer as it looks like the subject is about to kick them and makes the viewer think they are there in teh scene its self.

Film preperation

We are going to make a short practise film to try and get the skills of edditing small frames / shots to use in the actual filming. we had an idea of filming the actions slowley and with the edditing skills we allready have and speed up the shots to make it look more realistic. There is a problem in doing this if we can not get the right type of edditing it could mess up the hole film so thats why we are going to make a prep peaice befor the actual prep filming and the final cut.
